NBHAC BREEDING INCENTIVE PROGRAM

The breeding of barrel horses has evolved into a specialized aspect of the contest horse industry.

Successful barrel horses are the result of years of study and careful planning. The most effective breeding programs include stallions that were themselves winners and mares which also have enviable show records.

Then both must prove their ability to pass on their outstanding physical and mental qualities to their offspring.

Stallion owners donate a free breeding to the NBHAC Futurity, which is then sold at one half the advertised fee. Stallions standing at private treaty will be sold at a minimum fee of $250.00. The stallion is promoted in our stallion directory and most recently on the NBHAC web site. Stallion owners may nominate one of their foals each year they donate a breeding for the same fee as a person who has purchased a breeding from the NBHAC Futurity Program. Stallion owners of the highest placing Sire and Dam offspring in the Futurity will be honoured with an NBHAC Award. (i.e: cup). A free birth will be awarded to the owner of the sire of each year’s futurity winner which will entitle him to enter, free of charge, a 4yr old horse sired by the winning stallion into the following year’s futurity. This horse must be named and owned by the recipient. This award has no cash value.

MARES:

Each dam MUST be nominated. A copy of the mare’s papers must accompany the payment. Nomination fees WILL NOT be refunded for any reason. If a mare loses a foal and is rebred, the nomination fee MUST BE paid again the following year. If nomination payment is missed, the resulting foal WILL NOT be eligible to enter the futurity under any circumstances.

Any nominated foal that has not had the subsequent payments made will be accepted providing the whole amount owing plus a late payment fee is paid on or before scheduled date of final payment.

Mare owner purchasing a breeding through the program can enter resulting foal in the futurity for a fee of $250.00, on a payment schedule.

Mare owner not purchasing a donated stallion service may enter futurity if the required payments are made.

Remember the key is to nominate the Dam in her conception year.
